Choosing a Duvivier leather a long lasting leather

Duvivier leathers emanate from selected animals following extremely severe criterias. This is due to the fact that the quality of a leather first of all depends on the quality of the skin of the animal that has been tanned.

Thanks to this selection, the Duvivier leathers are supple, enjoyable and resistant.

Know-how

The tanners' know-how - an authentic leather

Duvivier leathers are tanned by tanners who have conserved the love of a well done job and for whom only the leathers tanned and finished according to the traditional methods deserve the name of leather.

The quality of a leather actually depends on the know-how of the tanner. This is why the Duvivier leathers are beautifull, authentic and everlasting.

'Full-grain' leather

supple and beautiful

Duvivier leathers are 'Full-grain' and slightly or not pigmented. They withold the advantages that buffed leathers and heavily pigmented leathers don't have. They are supple and their touch is pleasant.

They absorb the humidity of the body, act as a thermic regulator, and with time their beauty enhances.

Skin and tanning

According to the country from which emanates the hide, to its age, whether it was badly or well nourished, the suppleness, the resistance and elasticity of the leather will be more or less of good quality.

The quality of the food determines the quantity of collagene and elastine present in the hide. With age, these substances disappear. The race and sex will also have an effect on the aspect of the hide. Not one skin ressembles an other.

That is why the tanner must be capable of adapting his work to the characteristics of the skin.

Finishing

If the surface of the skin ( the grain) is covered by scars, by traces of skin diseases or insect bites, the tanner will have to erase all these defects :

- either by buffing the surface (rectified leather or top grain leather), but this procedure takes away the horizontal fibers that make leathers so resistant and the artificial grain embossed on the leather will disappear with time.

- or by covering under a thick layer of pigmentation (full-grain pigmented), but the leather will have the aspect and inconvenients of a synthetic material : plastic touch, bad thermic comfort, sweating, fragility, cracking of the pigmented layer.
